Q&A With Sarah-Marie Adamson
What does a typical day look like for you as a Director of Media Production?
The makeup of my job is pretty fluid, so each day typically brings something new to focus on. Some days, I’ll focus primarily on video ads for our clients’ YouTube accounts. Other days, I may find myself reformatting one of our journals as an EPUB file and submitting it to B&N Press for publication. This week, I’ve focused primarily on Social Worker Training videos for one of our clients, Adoption Choices of Nevada.
What is something, or a few things, that you enjoy most in your life?
What I enjoy most in my life is spending time with my loved ones and being there for them in any way that I can. I just got back from a visit to celebrate my niece’s graduation from pre-k over the weekend, and next week I’m taking my younger brother camping.
My boyfriend and I have weekly movie dates at the local AMC, so we’re pretty up-to-date with a lot of recent flicks. Further, I enjoy creative writing, playing video games, reading, practicing French, video editing, crafting, and hosting Girl’s Nights with two of my best girlfriends.
Are there any relevant things you have learned in your journey with media production and marketing?
It’s easy to feel insulted or taken aback when someone doesn’t resonate with your work, but at the end of the day, when you have a client-provider relationship, you’re making this for your client, not for you. I think this is important to understand for anyone who wants to commercialize their creative skill sets. I love what I do, and at the end of the day, I want my clients to love what I make, too.
Are there any relevant trends or challenges you see in the current marketing and media world?
Since COVID-19, there has been a huge surge in remote work. Educational technology has really taken off and is becoming increasingly popular due to its versatility, accessibility, cost, and overall uniqueness. This is the direction my department is heading towards – focusing more on online video training for clients.
What is one of your favorite parts about working with media and marketing with Marketing Choices?
My favorite part about working with Marketing Choices is creating things that help people. Whether it’s helping expedite the training process at someone’s company or helping educate families on what to expect during the adoption process, I find a lot of joy in knowing that the things I make matter.
Combining Lifelong Creativity With Career
Sarah-Marie has been interested in the media world all her life, with no shortage of creativity. “I have been creating videos ever since I discovered Microsoft Movie Maker on my mom’s laptop when I was a child,” she said. Naturally, her educational journey followed this passion with a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Tampa. “I discovered that I really loved storytelling, so scriptwriting and video editing were two aspects of filmmaking that really called to me,” she shared.
In undergraduate school, Sarah-Marie worked internships and part-time roles at various places. She worked as an art department intern for Hallmark’s True Love Blooms and worked part-time at an aerial photography and videography studio. She came across Marketing Choices “primarily by chance,” and has held positions here since. “In August of 2022, I was offered a full-time position as Media Production Manager and left my job with The Walt Disney Company,” she said.
This position has allowed her to help people while doing what she loves. “Knowing that the videos and journals I’ve worked on have been reviewed by real people and families to help them with whatever journey they’re on – whether that’s infertility, surrogacy, or adoption – is incredibly humbling. Feeling like I’ve helped make a difference brings me a lot of satisfaction in the work I do here,” she said.
